Trains 6-8
We are beginning the development and permitting process for Trains 6-8 at Rio Grande LNG. These trains are wholly owned by NextDecade and together will increase the Company’s total potential liquefaction capacity to 48 million tonnes per annum.
NextDecade filed a formal application with the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for Train 6 and a third berth in May 2026. The company also filed a Department of Energy application for Train 6 export authorizations in June 2026. NextDecade expects to advance the development of Trains 7 and 8 throughout 2026.
Advantages of Development on Single, Contiguous Site
Sufficient space exists at the RGLNG site to develop up to 10 liquefaction trains, which brings significant advantages and synergies, including:
- All trains are expected to use the same proven design and established technologies
- Geotechnical conditions are understood and more advantageous than other areas on U.S. Gulf Coast
- Labor and equipment can easily shift across site as additional trains are developed and constructed
- Extensive waterfront on site facilitates berth space and vessel capacity
- Site supports infrastructure for efficient LNG production, including storage tanks and transportation infrastructure
