The Greenest LNG in the World
NextDecade is combining NEXT Carbon Solutions carbon capture and storage (CCS) project with responsibly sourced natural gas (RSG) and our pledge to use net-zero power. We expect Rio Grande LNG to produce the lowest lifecycle greenhouse (GHG) LNG on a free-on-board basis – and to be the greenest LNG project in the world.
“Global LNG customers are increasingly focused on reducing the carbon footprint of the products they are buying. We offer the greenest LNG in the world – and NextDecade’s customers benefit from the confidence of a verifiably low-GHG LNG product at known costs throughout the contract term.”
– James MacTaggart, Chief Marketing Officer
What is RSG?
Reduces CO2 emissions by eliminating routine flaring
Utilizes net-zero power for operational electricity needs
Lowers methane intensity rate by addressing flaring and venting
Supports best practices for clean and produced water
Respects communities inwhich we live and work
Transparency & Certification
On April 19, 2021, NextDecade and Project Canary announced the formation of a joint pilot project for monitoring, reporting, and independent third-party measurement and certification of the GHG intensity of LNG to be sold from Rio Grande LNG. Project Canary is focused on delivering independent, trusted, continuous emissions monitoring data and related technologies to assess environmental performance across the energy value chain. This framework, the first in the global LNG industry, will enable the development of a responsibly sourced natural gas supply chain from leading producers in the Permian Basin and Eagle Ford Shale and independent, third-party certification of the GHG intensity of LNG.
