Since the Rio Grande LNG project was first announced in 2015, the project team has been involved in supporting community organizations and reaching out to Cameron County residents to tell them about the project and the liquefied natural gas (LNG) industry.
When you look at the numbers, 2018 was our most active year yet. Below are some of our community engagement highlights.
Supported dozens of community events
Here’s a summary of some of the events that we supported:
Meet more than 1,000 community stakeholders
The Rio Grande LNG project team met with community stakeholders to give them updates about the project and discuss the many ways the project can benefit the region.
Received endorsements from more than 25 community leaders in letters to the editor
Community leaders, business people and other supporters wrote letters to the editor on a wide range of topics published in local newspapers. Here are quotes from a few of those letters:
“As a professional and business owner with experience in oil field services, energy related imports & exports and construction, I’ve witnessed first-hand the economic benefits and opportunities these projects have on their communities. And the rigorous safety standards and environmental oversight associated with the energy industry is something I certainly feel safe and comfortable with being a part of my community.” Jim Griffin Jr., Brownsville
“As a lifetime Brownsville resident, I know many skilled, talented young people from Brownsville who have left the area in search of jobs in their fields. We need to give these bright young people more opportunities to work closer to home.” John Hohn, Brownsville
“The project will bring much-needed job diversity for both current and future generations of job seekers who live in the RGV. The LNG companies would create thousands of well-paying jobs for residents from all kinds of educational and work backgrounds, including both skilled tradesmen and college graduates.” Sergio Contreras, President/CEO, RGV Partnership
Made 8,000 Facebook friends
Since we launched our Facebook page in 2015, we reached the milestone of 8,000 friends in 2018. In March 2019, our Facebook following had grown to 9,200. Like us on Facebook to get the latest project and industry updates and see what we’re doing in the community.
Connected with more than 75,000 people in the community
We had one-on-one interactions at all of our events to talk with people about the project, including the positive economic impacts and what the they can expect in terms of jobs and job skills training.
